Building Up Brothers

Building up brothers is a program that taps into the natural leadership and development opportunities that exist inside of fraternities. The program focuses on offering fraternity leaders the tools to engage their brothers in conversations surrounding issues that are regularly experienced in their campus community. Building Up Brothers is a tool to help fraternities engage in conversations that increase accountability and personal responsibility, while also strengthening their brotherhood.

The program leverages fraternity leadership by equipping brothers to facilitate conversations around; domestic violence, sexual assault, harmful or abusive language, healthy relationships, personal responsibility, victim support and bystander intervention.

In a partnership between Iowa State Office of Greek Affairs, ACCESS, and Futures Without Violence,  Building Up Brothers is adapted from Coaching Boys into Men* which research shows has been effective in reducing or preventing domestic violence,  sexual assault, and other hate crimes through engagement of male leaders in athletics.
